In nearly every community in the United States, you could find a Lights On Afterschool celebration this year – and thanks to AYS, Central Indiana was no exception.
Organized by the Afterschool Alliance, Lights On Afterschool is a nationwide effort to urge greater investment in quality afterschool programs, which keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and help working families.
A number of our AYS sites hosted great Lights On events in October. At one of our Washington Twp. school sites, for example, kids colored lightbulbs that highlighted what makes their afterschool experiences so special.
At a Noblesville program, the site director organized very popular glow-in-the dark activities for students. The local newspaper was kind enough to take some great photos of the fun.
At other locations, you could find our AYS kids making glittery centerpieces, playing kickball with their families, decorating cookies or sending balloons into the air that were filled with students’ feelings about their afterschool learning and care.
Thank you to all of our AYS staff and families for making this year’s Lights On Afterschool such a success.
