This year’s Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week is April 22-26 and we’re excited to shine the spotlight on the Out-of-School Time (OST) heroes that make our organization happen! With over 200 youth development workers embedded in 6 different Hoosier school districts, our team goes above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing of students from Pre-K through 8th grade. These professionals aren’t just staff; they’re pillars of our community, bringing unique educational backgrounds, sports skills, and a genuine passion for youth development to our programs.
Our afterschool program stands as a testament to the power of skilled, caring professionals working with our youth. These individuals don’t just watch over our children; they engage them in activities that are not only educational but also foster happiness and health. From developing engaging curriculums to incorporating physical activities, our team ensures each child’s afterschool time is enriching and enjoyable.
OST professionals have the power to change the trajectory of young people’s lives. An estimated 7.8 million young people benefit from afterschool programs annually in the U.S., and these programs are supported by over 850,000 dedicated professionals. At AYS, we serve over 2,000 students in 39 different school buildings to provide Central Indiana families with accessible, reliable, enriching programming for students beyond the school day. These experts are the backbone of programs that lead to improved social development skills, better school attendance, and enhanced academic performance among our youth.
