Peace Through Yoga Comes to AYS Children!

To promote a healthier mind, body and spirit, AYS is featuring a unique class throughout the month of May and during Camp AYS. As AYS students at Fox Hill Elementary in Washington Township prepare for the end of the school year, many will experience challenging assignments and tests adding stress to these last few weeks. The after school Yoga class will give students an outlet for end of year stress, while learning the fundamentals of Yoga and its benefits for the mind and body.

Fox Hill's AYS students have had the opportunity to participate in a beginner Yoga Class instructed by Sally Brown Basset, owner of Peace through Yoga, and her staff every Wednesday afternoon throughout the month of May. Camp AYS participants at First-Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church will participate in the classes every Tuesday from 2:30-3:15 p.m. throughout the summer.

Yoga has proven to be a positive, inspirational and functional element of physical and mental health for many adults. Traditionally elementary-aged children are not exposed to its movements and principles. Reality is, young children- just as adults, are surrounded by stress and environments of anxiety. If a simple introduction can create an interest that might manage that as they mature why wait? One of these AYS students may just be a Yogi in Training.
