Several children from AYS before- and after-school program at IPS #70 participated in Lemonade Day Indianapolis. The program's lemonade stand, located at 52nd Street and the Monon Trail on Sunday, May 2, earned $61.65. Despite the gloomy weather, they had fun while getting their first taste at running a business.
The children from the program chose the location, the type of lemonade to sell and the price at which each cup would be sold. They also developed goals and a budget for their business and created posters to market their stand. The children gave customers the choice of a sugar-based and a sugar-free lemonade, which were both sold at 50 cents per glass. They exceeded their goal of grossing $60 for the day.
Parents and children who worked at the stand took turns holding signs. The first sale of the day was to a local restaurant owner who stopped and talked to the children about their goals.
