AYS Receives Several Grants to Help Working Families Provide Safe, Enriching Opportunities for Their Children

AYS, Inc. announced the receipt of several grants to help low-income working families provide their children with high-quality programs during the summer and school year. AYS operates year-round programming for children and youth in Central Indiana through early childhood education, kindergarten, before- and after-school and summer programs.

The Indiana Department of Education awarded AYS a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. This grant will support a program serving the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township's Blue and Gold Academies. The program will target children from low-income families and families in transition, as well as children for whom English is a second language and children who show a need due to low academic proficiency. The grant is awarded for the 2010-2011 school year through the 2013-2014 school year.

The Family and Social Services Administration's Bureau of Child Care awarded AYS a School Age Child Care Fund grant, which will allow AYS to offer a sliding fee scale to qualifying families at select sites. The grant is awarded for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.

AYS also received funding from The PeyBack Foundation and Lilly Endowment Inc. to provide scholarships for this summer's overnight camping experiences. AYS will offer two one-night camping trips at an additional fee to children enrolled in Camp AYS. Camp Morehak, a week-long camping adventure, will provide the opportunity for any child nine years old or older to experience a mini-resident camp while exploring nature, making new friends and having fun. Camp Morehak is also open to children not otherwise registered with AYS.

Families interested in more information regarding these funding and scholarship opportunities should contact AYS administrative office at 317-283-3817.
